Part 2: Best Boots for Working IN Concrete

We have encountered different comments over time regarding the ability of boots to resist the harsh work environments of working in concrete.

Concrete can be very harsh on boots in different ways.  One question we would have is does leather footwear tend to hold up acceptably in your particular environment.  If it does, we have some good composite protective toe all leather styles that could be well worth your consideration.

Leather shoes with soles that wrap around the bottom of the upper such as Georgia FLX Point 6” stock # G6654, 6” waterproof stock # G6644, 8” waterproof stock # G9644, & wellington stock # G5644 help protect the lower portion of the leather because of the coverage provided by the sole where they meet.

While all leather boots appear to be acceptable for some customers, there are other customers that seem to be seeking more.  If the work environment is such that your leather is becoming hard and brittle prematurely breaking down, you likely need footwear that is not all leather.

We provide certain products with a TPU (thermoplastic urethane) lower foot portion that hold up much longer under these circumstances because of the nature of its material.  While it is warmer and less flexible, it will hold up longer.

You will need to decide your priority.  If your priority is longer boot life, styles such as Georgia Boot Muddog Pull-On Wellington boot stock # G5655 and Lehigh Swampers 6” lace-up waterproof stock # 1107 could be very good options for your possible consideration.

If the Muddog and Swampers styles are not rugged enough for your purposes, the work environment exposure is likely occurring higher on the boot where the leather top meets the TPU foot breaking down the leather there and/or the stitching that is joining the two of them together.

If you are finding the Muddog and Swampers styles to not be as rugged as what you are seeking, you will then likely need to consider some sort of all man-made (rubber or PVC blended) boot or overboot for your possible use. Just click the "rubber & PVC boots" tab on our left nav to see a large selection of these styles.

Otherwise, please let us know if leather footwear appears to be acceptable for your use and we can help identify some leather styles (such as the G6654, G6644, etc) that would be better options than others.

Timberland PRO has some rugged steel toe products in its PowerWelt Wellington stock # 53522 and 6” stock # 47001 with their abrasion resistant Ever-Guard leather and Goodyear welt Cast-Bond technology helping prolong boot life in the lower foot area as well as where it attaches to the boot bottom.

We believe that we have a number of ideas that we can raise for your possible consideration and hope to hear from you if you have questions.  Thank you for your interest in our products and your feedback.
