Lehigh Safety Shoes: Lehigh Composite Toe Metatarsal Guard Work Boot 5248 Lehigh Safety Shoe Co. has been providing protective toe safety shoes since the early 1920’s initially under the name of Lehigh Rubber and Leather Company. There have been many upgrades in technology over time allowing for better Lehigh products. One of the key changes for Lehigh through the years has been the introduction of non-metallic composite toe caps such used in our Lehigh lightweight Composite Toe Metatarsal Guard Work Boot stock # 5248. The combination of this toe cap along with the other features of 5248 allows this style to meet the highest ASTM F2413-05 Protective Toe footwear standards for Impact & Compression resistance. The unique combination of this toe cap’s protective properties along with it being of a non-metallic material, make it ideal for areas requiring protective toe safety shoes that may have to pass through metal detectors during work. It should be noted that we have made 5248 with totally non-metallic components to aid in this regard. This is well suited for various transportation and prison oriented work areas. An additional feature of the 5248 Work Boot is its ASTM F2413-05 compliant external metatarsal guard that helps provide extra protection to the instep area along with the toes. The lightweight materials and construction of this shoe also helps make it very suitable for lighter cleaner industries desiring additional instep protection. A key comfort feature of the 5248 is its contoured removable polyurethane cushion insole providing direct underfoot cushion comfort. The polyurethane material used in its insole is known for its cushioning while not bottoming out features. Some open celled foams feel very comfortable to the initial touch, but will tend to break down faster than a product made with polyurethane. Plus, it is extra thick in the heel contact area. This provides additional underfoot comfort to the wearer. In addition to meeting the highest ASTM F2413-05 Impact & Compression and Metatarsal standards, Lehigh stock # 5248 also complies with its Electrical Hazard standards. This type of work boot is made with insulating bottoms providing secondary electrical hazard protection to those areas dealing with open circuits under dry conditions, but also can be worn in work areas requiring only basic protective toe work boots. If you are interested in an internal metatarsal version with similar features, please check out Lehigh Safety Shoe stock # 5348.
